Webmaster Position Description

WLA Online

WLA Online is one of three official publications of the Washington Library Association, providing WLA members with up-to-date information on the association and its activities, and related library links.

Summary

Under the general direction of the Association's Coordinator of Communications and following the WLA World Wide Website and Home Page Guidelines, WLA Online Webmaster implements web pages, maintains content and oversees day-to-day management of web sites, and assures quality and filing integrity of web pages.

Responsibilities

  1. Prototypes and implements web pages, working under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Communications. May work with Association President, Publications Council, Association Coordinator, Legislative Lobbyist, and Interest Group representatives to develop the page concepts and content.
  2. Plans for regular updates of pages to maintain timeliness of data.
  3. Reviews, spell-checks, error checks all web content prior to and after release, to maintain high level of quality of the pages.
  4. Performs all day-to-day maintenance of web pates, assuring pages and changes are referenced in the major search engines, and responding to e-mail about the pages.
  5. Writes structured, validated, and documented HTML code for ease of maintenance so that the code can be read and understood by others.
  6. Keeps current with HTML language and web tool developments in order to use the new features.
  7. Is a resource person to the individuals listed in #1 above on web site capabilities and limitations.
  8. Provides regular status reports to Coordinator of Communications and Association President.

Requirements

Dynamic, self-motivated individual with experience and skills in graphic design and/or web site design and maintenance; excellent writing skills; HTML editing, site development, and site management skills; scheduling flexibility to allow attendance at occasional meetings. Must use own computer.

Compensation

An annual stipend of $1,000, paid in twelve equal installments, and necessary travel expenses. In addition, WLA will provide the Webmaster with a individual WLN Internet account.

Reporting responsibilities

The WLA Online Webmaster is considered an employee of the Association, and as such, serves at the pleasure of the WLA President with concurrence of the WLA Executive Board. Ongoing direction in provided by the Coordinator of Communications. Performance evaluations are provided by the President with input from the Coordinator of Communications.
