Board Position Descriptions

Incoming Chair/Chair/Chair Emeritus

This is a three-year position. It is the responsibility of the Incoming Chair to secure an author/illustrator for the annual CAYAS breakfast the following year (i.e., the year the Incoming Chair is Chair). This position rotates in year two into the Chair position.

Secretary

This is a two-year position. It is the responsibility of the Secretary to take notes at board meetings and interest group meetings, sending out completed minutes in a timely fashion.

Board Position #1

This is a two-year position. This board member works in the fall/winter to select a Visionary Award Winner to be presented at the WLA Conference the following spring. In the early spring, they will work to determine a topic and speaker for the fall workshop. This position is elected in even years and presents their workshop in odd years.

Board Position #2

This is a two-year position. This board member works in the fall to determine a topic and speaker for the spring workshop. In the early spring, they work to determine a topic and speaker to present a workshop at the WALE conference, generally held in October. This position is elected in even years and presents their workshop in odd years.

Board Position #3

This is a two-year position. This board member works in the fall/ winter to select a Visionary Award Winner to be presented at the WLA Conference the following spring. Board Position #4

This is a two-year position. This board member works in the fall to determine a topic and speaker for the spring workshop. In the early spring, they work to determine a topic and speaker to present a workshop/ session at the WALE conference, generally held in October. This position is elected in odd years and presents their workshop in even years.

Blog/Newsletter Editor

This is a two-year position. It is the responsibility of the Newsletter Editor to publish three to four newsletters per year. The newsletter is in online format and posted on the CAYAS website. The Newsletter editor will also mail out the ballots in the spring, working in conjunction with the Chair Emeritus.

On-Campus Student Liaison

This can be a 1-2 year position, depending on the student’s schedule for graduation. This position may also be shared. The On-Campus Student Liaison works with the Chair Emeritus to invite student presenters for Booktalking the Best at the WLA Conference. The On-Campus Student Liaisons finds their replacement in the spring.

Distance Learning Liaison

This can be a 1-2 year position, depending on the student’s schedule for graduation. This position keeps the CAYAS web page current and finds their replacement in the spring.
