Washington Library AssociationFall 1998
Dear Friend and Supporter of Washington Library Association Conferences:
We thank you for your past support of Washington Library Association conferences and we look for your continued support and attendance this next year and in the future. There will be some changes for vendors for the 1999 Conference because of logistical challenges posed by the Pasco DoubleTree Hotel. It was a difficult decision to not provide a dedicated exhibit hall for this one Conference due to lack of meeting facilities. Instead, we decided to do something even better and provide two specific vendor-oriented functions at the Conference that would allow substantial vendor interaction with WLA members.
The principal event will be "Microbrew and the Vendors", a fun-filled event to be held the Wednesday night before the Conference from 6-10 PM. This preconference event will take place at three venues in close proximity in downtown Pasco--The old Pasco Carnegie Library, now the Franklin County Historical Museum ("Fond Farewells"), the just- remodeled Pasco Public Library ("Bold Beginnings"), and the Ice Harbor Brewing Company ("Get Down and have a great time!"). A bus will be chartered to take people among these venues and the hotel. We will combine food, drink, entertainment, vendors, and door prizes into this event that no one will want to miss. There will be fun things happening at each venue. With two great preconferences on Wednesday, and with most of the 300-400 people arriving at the conference on Wednesday afternoon and evening to get a free breakfast and hear ALA Executive Director Bill Gordon on Thursday morning, we expect Wednesday evening to be a fun-filled blast! And we want you there!
The second event will be a "Lunch with the Vendors" on Thursday with an interesting talk by Gordon Jackson of Whitworth College, "Old Media and New: What History Teaches About Adapting to the Internet", sponsored by the Reference Interest Group. Come have lunch with our librarians and other fun staff. Each vendor will be personally recognized before the lunch speaker. The first 20 vendors to sign up may decorate and "host" a table and donate the decorations to one of the "guests" at the table as a door prize. Following the lunch there will be at least a half hour time frame without any other activity where vendors can continue talking to our WLA members before the afternoon programs begin.
For a grand total of only $100, you as a vendor will get:
- Free barbecue dinner, desserts, and beverages at "Microbrew and the Vendors" April 28
- Free lunch (Chicken Caesar Salad or Pasta Primavera) at the vendor lunch April 29
- Prominent verbal and written recognition in the conference program and at each event
- Space at one of the evening venues to set up small displays and/or to talk to conferencegoers
- Internet access at the Pasco Public Library venue
- Access time to "talk shop" to WLA members in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere
- Opportunity for Internet access in rooms or suites at the DoubleTree Hotel
We look forward to seeing you in Pasco next April.
