OLA Roundtables and WLA Interest Groups will be meeting during the conference to welcome new members and make plans for the upcoming year. If you'd like to become more active in your state's professional association, this is a good opportunity to get involved. OLA Round Table Meetings

The following WLA Interest Groups will meet on Thursday, April 18 from 2:15-3:00 PM:

Collection Development Interest Group (CDIG) - CDIG discusses Collection Development issues, practices, and policies. In a newsletter and at conferences, we meet to promote understanding of collection activities and roles in all manner of libraries.

Grassroots Interest Group (GRASSROOTS!) - The Grassroots! Interest Group works to organize WLA member support for library issues and to train WLA members to work effectively with their elected officials.

Public Relations Forum (PRF) - PRF works to raise the level of library public relations expertise and awareness.

Social Responsibilities Round Table (SRRT) - SRRT is a forum for individuals/groups who are concerned with issues/problems of social responsibilities of libraries and librarians. SRRT adopts an action-oriented stance to look at issues such as participatory decision making, services to minorities and the disenfranchised, and diverse collections and staff.

Washington Association of Library Employees (WALE) - WALE strives to promote and provide continuing education, networking and improved library service throughout the state.

The following WLA Interest Groups will meet on Thursday, April 18 from 5:00-6:00 PM:

Children's and Young Adult Services (CAYAS) - If you would like to promote excellence in library service to children and young adults, participate in outstanding continuing education opportunities, network with librarians serving young people, receive a newsletter with ideas and information about key issues...then please join CAYAS (pronounced chaos), the Children's and Young Adult Services Interest Group of the Washington Library Association.

Intellectual Freedom Interest Group (IFIG) - The Intellectual Freedom Interest Group works to raise the awareness of the library community on intellectual freedom matters. It conducts activities and programs on intellectual freedom issues, and disseminates information through its newsletter.

Literacy Interest Group (LIT) - LIT promotes activities related to literacy and encourages partnerships between libraries and literacy groups.

Managers Administrators, Supervisors and Trainers Interest Group (MAST) - MAST supports library managers, administrators, supervisors and trainers.

Reference Interest Group (RIG) - RIG facilitates communications among reference librarians, encourages inter-library reference and provides training opportunities for library staffs.

Technical Services Interest Group (TSIG) - TSIG promotes technical services activities and acquisitions in all types of libraries.

All OLA Round Table Meetings will take place on Thursday, April 18 from 5:00-6:00 PM.

Business Reference Round Table/ Business Interest Group of Oregon (BIGOR) - BIGOR's objectives are to provide opportunities for information sharing, networking, and continuing education for OLA members who provide business reference services or are interested in the role of business in our society.

The Documents Interest Group of Oregon (DIGOR) - DIGOR is dedicated to making government documents of all kinds more easily accessible, more useful, to library staff and patrons. DIGOR promotes information sharing among people involved with, or interested in, government documents by sponsoring educational programs and giving documents folks an opportunity to meet and interact.

International Relations Round Table (IRRT) - IRRT's objective is to provide a framework for information sharing among librarians, library workers, and library supporters interested in international librarianship activities at all types of libraries. The specific aims of the IRRT are to increase the communication of OLA members from all types of libraries about the international visits, exchanges, and special programs in which OLA members are involved.

Library Instruction Round Table (LIRT) - LIRT was formed “ to promote library instruction as a means to empower library users to become life-long learners; to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and materials; to foster continuing educational opportunities; and to promote cooperation and fellowship among OLA members engaged in library instruction.”

Outreach Round Table (ORRT) - ORRT was formed to provide a framework for information sharing, continuing education, and moral support for library workers currently providing outreach services, and to offer opportunities for networking and encouragement to libraries wishing to expand or develop library outreach services. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, facility accessibility and library service to the elderly, hearing or visually impaired, physically or developmentally disabled, mentally ill, incarcerated, illiterate, and non-English speaking. (ORRT is sponsoring the pre-confernce session "Expanding Your Reach: Outreach Services for Everyone").

Reference Round Table (RRT) - RRT has two major objectives. The first is to provide a practical framework for sharing information, fostering professional interactionsand providing continuing education opportunities. The second is to be a support system for library workers engaged in reference services in all types of Oregon libraries.

Social Responsibilities Round Table (SRRT) - The goals of the SRRT are:
     1. To provide a forum for the discussion of the responsibilities of libraries and librarians in relation to the important issues of social change that face institutions and librarians.
     2. To provide for the exchange of information among all OLA units about library activities with the goal of increasing understanding of current social problems and issues.
     3. To act as a stimulus to the association and its various units in making libraries more responsive to current social needs.
     4. To present programs, arrange exhibits, and carry out other appropriate activities consistent with its other goals.

Technical Services Round Table (TSRT) - TSRT's general objective is to provide a framework for information sharing, continuing education, and moral support for library workers currently engaged in technical services activities. Specifically, the group has three aims:
     1. To provide for the exchange of ideas on technical services and automation processes, systems, and policies.
     2. To provide a medium for the exploration of new ideas and technologies.
     3. To foster cooperation among all Oregon libraries in the areas of technical services and automation and to increase an awareness in the library community of the roles of technical and automation services.
