Full-Day Pre-Conferences

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19 (8:30am–5pm)
Registration Deadline: March 8, 2006

 

Pre-conferences are not included in the 2006 conference registration fee.
You must register and pre-pay for the
pre-conference you wish to attend.
Registration is on a space-available basis.
The price of each full-day pre-conference includes lunch.
All pre-conferences will be held at the Sheraton Tacoma.

 

Prospecting for Gold: Effective Fundraising Strategies

Jeanne Thorsen (KCLS Foundation), Terry Collings and Jonna Ward(SPL Foundation) and Nancy Patton (Sno-Isle Libraries) will discuss fundraising as an option for enhancing revenue in these challenging economic times. This program will include information on: the “big picture” for fundraising today, annual giving, planned giving, special events, how Friends and Foundations fit in, how to raise money for special projects and how to be good stewards of donated funds. Rev Up Your Online Services: Blogs, RSS, Wikis and other Dynamic and Low-cost Technologies

Jenny Levine (Suburban Library System–Illinois) and Michael Stephens (St. Joseph County Library–Indiana) will explore how blogs, RSS, wikis and social bookmark managers can be used to offer a more dynamic, useful web site for your patrons. They’ll also examine how new applications of Virtual Reference can be used to reach patrons where they are online. These are no or low-cost tools that can be implemented by any sized library right now! Sponsored by TRIP, NexGenWa and the Washington State Library.

 

Corrective Action and Progressive Discipline: A Skill for New, and Not-so-New, Supervisors

Lin Schnell, Human Resources Director at the Seattle Public Library will discuss one of the most dreaded roles as a supervisor: addressing serious employee work-related performance or behavior problems. This workshop provides the skills needed to make sound decisions about and to lawfully implement corrective action and employee discipline. Sponsored by WALT and SAM.
