CAYAS Board Duties

Incoming Chair – Joins board in June. This is a three year position. It is the responsibility of the Incoming Chair to secure an author/illustrator for the annual CAYAS breakfast the following year (ie – the year the Incoming Chair is Chair).

Chair –Incoming Chair takes Chair responsibilities beginning with June board meeting. The Chair facilitates CAYAS Board meetings and IG meetings at WLA Conference, coordinates with WLA Board as member of IG Council, attends WLA Board retreat and presents report. Writes CAYAS Newsletter column, proposes budget/approves expenditures, facilitates annual planning retreat/prepares annual calendar, coordinates and communicates with Board members, Maintains archives during year as Chair, presents interest group report at WLA Board retreat.

Chair Emeritus – Takes on responsibilities at June board meeting. The Chair Emeritus works closely with the on campus liaison to plan the Book talking the Best program for the WLA Conference the following spring. It is also the responsibility of the CE to find replacements for the outgoing board members. Ballot is sent out in the spring.

Secretary/Treasurer – Joins board in June. This is a two year position. It is the responsibility of the Secretary/Treasurer to take notes at board meetings and interest group meetings, sending out completed minutes in a timely fashion.

Newsletter Editor – Joins board in June. This is a two year position. It is the responsibility of the Newsletter Editor to publish 3-4 newsletters a year. The newsletter is changing from a print format to an online format. The Newsletter Editor will also mail out the ballot in the spring, working in conjunction with the CE.

Board Position #1 – Joins the board in June. This is a two year position. This board member works in the fall/winter to select a Visionary Award Winner to be presented at the WLA Conference in the following spring. In the early spring, they will work to determine a topic and speaker for the fall workshop. This position is elected in even years.

Board Position #2– Joins the board in June. This is a two year position. This board member works in the fall to determine a topic and speaker for the spring workshop. In the early spring, they work to determine a topic and speaker to present a workshop at the WALE conference, generally held in October. This position is elected in even years.

Board Position #3 – Joins the board in June. This is a two year position. This board member works in the fall/winter to select a Visionary Award Winner to be presented at the WLA conference in the following spring. In the early spring, they will work to determine a topic and speaker for the fall workshop. This position is elected in odd years.

Board Position #4 - Joins the board in June. This is a two year position. This board member works in the fall to determine a topic and speaker for the spring workshop. In the early spring, they work to determine a topic and speaker to present a workshop at the WALE conference, generally held in October. This position is elected in odd years.

On-Campus Student Liaison – Joins the board in June. This can be a 1-2 year position, depending on the student’s schedule for graduation. Works with CE to invite student presenters for Book talking the Best at WLA Conference. Finds replacement in the spring.

Distance Learning Student Liaison - Joins the board in June. This can be a 1-2 year position, depending on the student’s schedule for graduation. Keeps CAYAS web page current. Find replacement in spring.

Newly elected board members are invited to attend board meeting at WLA Conference.
CAYAS Programs at WLA Annual Conference are brainstormed by the entire Board at its Planning Retreat and Board members, except Chair/Chair Elect and Chair Emeritus are each encouraged to volunteer to organize one of the program topics.
