Bylaws
Article I. Name. The name of the organization shall be GRASSROOTS!
Article II. Relationship. This organization is an Interest Group of the Washington Library Association, as authorized by
the Washington Library Association Bylaws. (Article XIII, Section 3)
Article III: Purpose. The purpose of GRASSROOTS! shall be to organize WLA member support for library issues
and to train Association members to work effectively with their elected officials.
Article IV. Membership. Any member of the Washington Library Association may become a member of GRASSROOTS!
Article V: Officers. Officers of GRASSROOTS! shall be a Chair, a Vice-Chair, and a Secretary, which shall
comprise the Steering Committee. The Chair shall have the authority to appoint a Treasurer, who would also serve on the Steering Committee. Officers shall serve a one-year term. Officers may
be re-elected. The Chair, as needed, may appoint committees.
Article VI. Meetings. An annual meeting shall be held in conjunction with the annual conference of the Washington
Library Association. A quorum shall consist of the members present at the annual meeting. Other meetings may be held as determined by the Steering Committee.
Article VII: Elections. Elections shall be conducted annually. Any current Grassroots! member may vote in the annual
elections.
Article VIII. Vacancies. In the event of a vacancy in the Chair position, the Vice-Chair shall become the chair. The Chair,
subject to the approval of a majority of the Steering Committee, shall fill all other vacancies. Officers appointed to fill vacancies shall serve until the next annual meeting.
Article IX. Amendments. These bylaws may be amended by a majority vote of GRASSROOTS! members
