Tour of the

McNeil Island Corrections Center Library and

Western State Hospital Library

Interested in special library collections?  Want to learn more about the challenges of providing reference services in an institutional setting?  A free tour of these two institutions will take place on Wednesday, October 5, 2005.  Regional Librarians will introduce their collections and discuss the special needs of the inmates and residents.  This is a great opportunity to see these facilities and learn from the professionals who manage them!

 

Our Schedule

7:30 a.m.

Vanpool from the University of Washington (exact site TBA)

9:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Visit the Western State Hospital in Lakewood

11:00 to 12:15 p.m.

Lunch in Steilacoom (not included)

12:30 p.m.

Be at the ferry dock for the 1:00 pm ferry to McNeil Island.

1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Tour McNeil Island CC

3:45 p.m.

Return to the ferry dock to catch the 4:15 ferry

4:30 p.m.

Return to the mainland and drive back to the UW campus

 

Bring photo ID, and leave large bags at home.  We’ll be subject to search before entering the facilities, and will lock purses, etc. in the van.  Because of the high security nature of the facilities, participants are required to undergo advance background checks by the Department of Corrections.  You must provide:

·                    Full name

·                    Date of birth

·                    Social Security Number
