RIG - Reference Interest Group - Bylaws

Bylaws
Article I: Name.
The name of the organization shall be Reference Interest Group (RIG). Article II: Relationship. This organization is an Interest Group of the Washington Library Association, as authorized by The Washington Library Association Bylaws. (Article XIII, Section 3.)
Article III: Purpose.
Promotes growth in the reference profession by facilitating communication among library staff, encouraging cooperative reference networks and providing enrichment opportunities.
Article IV: Membership.
Any member of the Washington Library Association may become a member of the Reference Interest Group. RIG members may be asked by the Steering Committee chair to serve on or lead any RIG standing subcommittee. Article V: Officers. Officers of RIG shall be a chair and a vice-chair. Chair has the authority to appoint the steering committee. Chair is the signature authority for all RIG expenditures. Any office may choose, by steering committee vote, to split the duties between two co-officers. Officers shall serve a one
(1) year term. Officers may be re-elected. It is the expectation of RIG that the vice-chair agree to stand for the position of RIG chair for the forthcoming year.
Article VI: Steering Committee.
The Steering Committee shall be composed of the officers and at least 3 members-at-large appointed by the officers and shall conduct all business pertaining to RIG. Steering Committee members may be re-appointed. Article VII: Elections. Election of Officers shall be conducted by ballot to the membership. Elections may be held via mail, membership meeting or electronically. Majority vote wins the seat. Article VIII: Meetings. RIG members shall be encouraged to attend RIG meetings. Electronic forums may be used to conduct meetings. An annual meeting shall be held in conjunction with the annual conference of the Washington Library Association. Other meetings will be held as necessary to conduct RIG commitments and activities. Article IX: Vacancies. In the event of a vacancy in the Chair position, the Co-chair, if applicable, or vice-chair shall become the Chair. All other vacancies in Steering Committee offices or in other committees shall be filled by the Chair with the approval of the RIG Steering Committee. Officers appointed to fill vacancies shall serve until the next regular election. Article X: Amendments. The bylaws may be amended by a majority vote through a mail ballot to the membership.
