Introductions were held, WALT members identified themselves and potential members will welcomed to the meeting.

Mary Ross explained the history of WALT and  the by-laws. She also talked about the upcoming events, which include meetings and the “Cultivating Supervisory Success” workshops.

The “Cultivating Supervisory Success” workshop in Issaquah is full and has a waiting list of about 25.  There were still 7 or so spots left for the Spokane workshop.  The group talked about possible sites that would be appropriate for two more workshops on the west side of the state.  Possibilities include: WSU Energy Library (Diane Klein), Highline CC (Taylor Stoneback), Timberland Service Center, Fort Vancouver Regional Library.

Mary Stillwell explained the difference between the two listservs.  WALT members should use the list walt@wla.org to discuss WALT business.  The other listserv (walibtrain) is hosted by the Washington State Library and is for posting training events.

Mary Ross talked about the upcoming meeting schedule for 2003-2004.  The dates have been set as Friday, April 25 10-11, online meeting (URL and meeting key will be sent to listserv); Friday July 18, Sno-Isle Service Center in Marysville; Friday October 17, WSL in Tumwater; Friday January 9, 2004, SPL.  The group also discussed holding one of the meetings in Yakima or somewhere else east of the mountains.  A good possibility would be to hold it at the same time as the WALE conference which is October 2,3 and 4. WALT could do a version of the “Staff Training on the Cheap!” session for WALE.

A discussion was held about the functions of the officers of WALT.  Elections will be held by printed ballot which will be mailed to the membership.  Those present at the meeting were invited to nominate anyone for any of the offices.  They could also email anyone on the steering committee to suggest nominations.

Everyone at the business meeting was invited to fill out the form to suggest training needs that WALT might address with future workshops.  The form can be mailed back to Mary Ross. Robin Cameron suggested that WALT do a training for WLA members on presentation skills before next year’s conference.
