School Library Division Committees

Responsibilities: Works on charter; nominating; budget; changes in governance & structure; develops leadership pathways.

  1. The term for School Library Division Officers is January 1 to December 31 annually. Additional committee work may also be appointed as ad hoc.
  2. All meetings are open to membership.
  3. Committee meetings may be conducted in person or online, depending on the preferences of the chair and members.

Membership Committee

Responsibilities:  Identification of new teacher-librarians and invitations to join/renew; outreach to current members, including through regional structures; planning, coordination and communications regarding member activities; nominations/evaluations for Emeritus status, communications with School Library Division Regions.

Advocacy Committee

Responsibilities:  Legislative representation and lobbying communications and actions, fundraising, advocacy at state/legislative, national, and local levels, coordination of WLA Library Legislative Day, communications and coordinating with ISTE, AASL/WLA, other organizations for national advocacy efforts.

Communications Committee

Responsibilities: Coordination of official School Library Division communications and alignment with WLA communications, including website, listserv, social media, and publications; promotion of School Library Division events.

Professional Development Committee

Responsibilities: Coordination, planning, and promotion of regional and statewide PD opportunities and events; Work with other WLA Division and Sections on shared PD, communicate with Higher Ed, coordinate with Conference Committee.
