2020 WLA CAYAS Summer Workshop: Best Practices for Serving Trans Youth
WLA's Children & Young Adult Services (CAYAS) Section is excited to invite you to an online workshop where we'll be strengthening our knowledge and compassion for the struggles of our young transgender patrons! Aidan Key from Gender Diversity will help with your confidence around trans needs by reviewing what questions and conversations you may encounter, how to stay respectful when faced with topics of faith and politics, learning about current medical and mental health research, and simple steps you can take to create safe spaces for youth to grow. The workshop covers needs for children & teens and will have time for Q&A at the end. When: Wednesday, August 12, 2020 | 10:00 am–12:00 pm Register today!
Aidan Key has served as a consultant to hundreds of K-12 schools and other youth-based agencies across the US and has provided districts with training, strategic planning, policy development, and staff, parent, and student education. Key is the co-author of Trans Bodies, Trans Selves: Children (Oxford University Press) and Gender Cognition in Transgender Children (Psychological Science). Past speaking/keynote engagements include the Children’s Justice Conference, the National Women’s Judges Conference, the Adolescent Medicine Conference, and the University of Alaska’s 1st Power & Privilege conference. He is currently authoring a book, Trans Children in Today’s Schools (Oxford University Press, expected publication date, late 2020). The Greater Seattle Business Association honored Key as the Humanitarian of the Year (2017) and The Pride Foundation, Ingersoll Gender Center, Chicago Black Pride, Seattle Out and Proud, have praised Key’s work as well. He has often been featured in the national media, including the Oprah Winfrey Show, NPR’s Diane Rehm Show, Al Jazeera America, Larry King Live, and Fresh Air with Terry Gross. Most recently, Aidan was selected as one of Seattle magazine’s 2019 Most Influential People of the Year. |

Aidan Key (he/him) is the founder and director of Gender Diversity, an organization serving families of trans and gender diverse children. He produces Gender Odyssey, the longest-running annual conference for families and professionals.
