About SAIL

SAIL was established in 2013 as a WLA Section (formerly known as Interest Group) to support the needs of library staff in Washington State who provide adult services. In 2015 the WLA Board approved a proposal to merge the TRIP (Technology) and RIG (Reference) Sections into SAIL.

In addition to supporting adult reference and technology in libraries, SAIL focuses on readers' advisory, health literacy, and workforce education for adult patrons in public and academic libraries throughout Washington State.

The primary purpose of SAIL is to support librarians by:

  • Promoting programming for adults in libraries

  • Encouraging professional collaboration & networking

  • Conducting continuing education programs for library staff, particularly, but not exclusively, in the areas of reference and technology training and tools
